IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE BEAUTY OF THE LIVING RIVER
The Ohio River has been central to America’s story, from its days as a strategic waterway during the Revolutionary War, acting as a beacon of hope for freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad, and the main route for westward expansion. It has also provided immense beauty, a thriving environment and the home for countless species of fish and animals along its 981 miles of majestic currents. This October, the riverfront in Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport will honor the Ohio River with activations focused on the Ecology of the River during the America’s River Roots Festival.
Living Lands and Waters For the past 26 years, Living Lands and Waters has been cleaning America’s rivers, having removed over 13 million pounds of trash with their fleet of vessels. Visit them in Newport during the Festival to tour their barges and learn about the important work of preserving the Ohio River.
Ecology Lab Living Lands and Waters will also host an Ecology Lab. This exhibit will feature many species of fish and educate attendees on the ecology of the Ohio and the environment that so many creatures rely upon.
Ohio River Sweep ORSANCO's Ohio River Sweep litter cleanup, in partnership with Ohio River Way and America's Rivere Roots, takes place on Sat., Oct 4th. We will clean miles of land and water to shine during the festival. The Ohio River Sweep is proudly co-sponsored by MadTree Brewing.
River Industry Exhibits The Ohio River has been a major artery for commerce and transportation in our nation for hundreds of years. Visit this exhibit to learn from the people that operate the barges, tow boats, and more, enabling the vital traffic that helps power our economy.
